Uganda - Carpentry building Soroti

This was set up in Soroti in a purpose built workshop on the land belonging to Soroti DC, with the vision to be both an income generating project as well as a training school for unemployed youth. The project was set back during its early stages by the LRA terrorist crisis in 2003, in which the building was co-opted for use as a makeshift dormitory. Three phase electricity was provided to power some substantial reconditioned equipment bought in Kampala; a bench saw and a planer, router and finisher among other things. For a while 3 carpenters were working there, and producing tables, chairs, beds etc. Some mismanagement issues emerged and the project ran into some difficulties over cash flow. However, it currently continues with one carpenter and the local church still carry the vision of developing this into a training facility.
